Education Cs Bans Prayers Day in Schools


Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) fred matiang'ihas released new measures geared towards curbing rampant cheating during national examinations.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Matiang'i announced that the Ministry had banned midterms, visiting days, prayers' day and all other social activities during schools' third term.

According to the CS, such events were contributing to exam malpractices since students would get access to exam papers and mobile phones to help in propagating the vice.

Students injured in dormitory fire

At least 28 students of Kamandura Girls Secondary School in Limuru were injured when their dormitories caught fire Monday night.

In a statement to newsrooms, Communications Manager of St. Johns Ambulance Fred Majiwa said the inferno, which started at 8PM and destroyed close to ten dormitories, is suspected to have been caused by an electric fault.

According to reports, majority of the students were hurt while trying to rescue their belongings from the inferno.

Teachers with top grades to be given priority in TSC jobs

Teachers who perform well academically will be given first priority during employment as opposed to the year of graduation, a Teachers Service Commission (TSC) official said on Friday.

Speaking during the Meru Teachers Training College 77th graduation ceremony on Friday, TSC vice-chairman Cleophas Tirop said the commission will follow merit in appointments.

“Fresh teachers who scored distinction in their coursework will be given preference when it comes to employment.
