Three bridge international academy pupils from kenya, lands prestigious US study scholarship

Three class eight pupils from non-formal schools in the country have been awarded full scholarships to study at prestigious private schools in the United States.

The pupils, Josephine Nyakundi, Geoffrey Emali Ahura and Grace Kerubo Nyanchoka, have been awarded the scholarship worth Sh20 million for their outstanding academic performance, commitment to the community and leadership skills despite coming from slum areas.

TSC has released the teachers September pay a few hours to KNUT Annual General Meeting set for Wednesday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta last month asked TSC to consider releasing the withheld September salaries for teachers after holding talks with the two teachers’ unions at State House, Nairobi.

Author Marjorie Oludhe Macgoye dies at her home in Ngara

Born Marjorie King in 1928 in Southampton, England, and died on 1st December 2015 in Kenya  Marjorie travelled to Kenya to work as a missionary in 1954. She worked at the S.J. Moore Bookshop on Government Road, now Moi Avenue in Nairobi, for some years. There she organised readings which were attended by, among others, Okot P'Bitek, the author of Song of Lawino, and Jonathan Kariara, a Kenyan poet. She met Macgoye, a medical doctor, and the two were married in 1960.

Knut dimisses Teachers union membership confirmation exercise by Tsc illegal

A union has dismissed as illegal, a three-month notice given to more than 288,000 teachers across the country to confirm their union membership.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary-General Wilson Sossion said it was the union’s sole mandate to recruit members, and urged Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to immediately withdraw the notice.

Education CS Matiangi commands September teachers salaries to be paid from November 30

Teachers who missed their September after participating in a strike will now be paid starting Monday, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has said.

The over 245,000 teachers missed their September salaries after their employer released payment for only 42,973 teachers who did not participate in the strike.

“(I) had discussions with TSC Secretary Nancy Macharia, consulted with colleagues Attorney-General Githu Muigai and Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.

“Teachers' September salaries to be paid from tomorrow,” said Dr Matiang'i on Sunday.
